Alamosa Wine Cellars, Bend, Texas ...
the top of the hill country...677 CR 430, Bend,TX 76824
Our Texas Hill Country Winery in Bend, Texas was built just in time for the 1999 harvest.
With our new permit, we began to sell our 1998 wines (made at Texas Hill Vineyard’s facility, thanks to our friends Gary and Kathy Gilstrap), and to process our estate grapes for the first time at Alamosa Wine Cellars. The winery was solely a production facility at first, but as the law changed to allow wineries in “dry” precincts to sell wines retail, we began to sell to visitors. Soon there was a need for a proper tasting room, so in 2004 we completed an addition to our winery.
Now the tasting room is the focal point of the winery with a wide veranda, antique fixtures and a stone fireplace. The bar is a fixture from the mercantile store owned and operated by Karen’s parents. Norman and Vivian Billings ran “Billings of Nixon” Department Store for over 50 years in Nixon, Texas. Other antiques from the store are also in use in the tasting room. The San Saba Sandstones used in the fireplace and for the rock trim on the exterior came from a ranch just a few miles away. Large cedar posts support the roof over a 10 foot wide veranda…just waiting for you to sit in our cedar chairs and enjoy a glass of wine.
We are open every Saturday from 10 to 5 for visitors. On special event weekends, we are open Friday and Saturday from 10 to 6 and on Sundays noon to 5. Special events include the Texas Hill Country Wine Trails and the Way Out Wineries Road Trips. Check our schedule or call us for an appointment at other times. Tasting is complimentary for 5 wines.
