Our vineyard is situated in an area called High Valley in San Saba County Texas. We enjoy an elevation of 1200 feet and deep alluvial soils deposited by the nearby Colorado River. The south winds and the fogs from the river cool the vineyard. There is a protective ridge of hills that surround the area and provide the backdrop for fabulous sunsets and wonderful views.
We planted the vineyard in grapes that have been selected for our climate and soils…those which have performed in other warm climates to produce excellent wines. We were the first to dedicate our vineyard exclusively to producing warm climate varietals.

The first five acres of our home vineyard, Tio Pancho Ranch, was planted in the spring of 1996 with the help of friends and family. We started with the Viognier, the wonderful, aromatic white grape of the Northern Rhone and Sangiovese the great winegrape of Italy. In 1997 and 1998 we expanded the vineyard to include Tempranillo, and Syrah. Additionally, some blending grapes were added such as Grenache (or Garnacha) and Graziano to complete the 10 acre vineyard. |
